LLC vs NONPROFIT CORPORATION

Ghostbusters: Texas Rangers Division, a nonprofit corporation, is often mistaken for The North Texas Ghostbusters LLC as we both operate within the DFW Metroplex of Texas. It's important to differentiate the North Texas Ghostbusters' structure from a nonprofit corporation. Many other Ghostbusters fan groups, such as Ghostbusters: Texas Rangers Division, operate as nonprofits and are organized under a different section of the Texas Business Organizations Code.

• A nonprofit corporation's primary purpose is not to make a profit. Any revenue they generate must be used to support their charitable or educational mission and cannot be distributed to the owners or members.
• A for-profit LLC, like the North Texas Ghostbusters, is organized with the goal of generating profit that can be distributed to its members. The fact that they engage in charitable activities doesn't change their fundamental legal structure.

By organizing as a for-profit LLC, the North Texas Ghostbusters can still participate in and raise money for charitable causes, but they do so as a business, not as a nonprofit entity.
